Director: Joss Whedan

Released: 2002

Captain Mal is the head of a ragtag group of drifters in a futuristic mix of sci fi and the wild west. After being on the losing side of an intergalactic civil war, he is tormented by his past yet still has a sense of humour, if not crude at times. The writing is superb as we see a diverse group of people with there own unique pasts that play into the episodes. Though cancelled after just one season, it still has a cult following to this day. It has been over a decade since the show aired but even the special effects hold up greatly. Well worth a watch and even the movie that follows the series was good, though it contains a rushed feeling.

Recommend: Battlestar: Galactica, Stargate: SG1
